If I were ranking on actual goodness, then A would be EX and B would be A. And I already have C up. Just leave it to me.
B mangas are those which have extremely well written stories, but have a large enough fanbase to keep afloat. A mangas are all well written but need fans to support them.

I would have to vouch for Full Metal Alchemist going into the B list. It's popular enough that it doesn't need a fanbase to support it, but for a mainstream shonen it's surprisingly good. I'm 30 episodes in and, to my surprise it doesn't have most of the steriotypical anime tropes. There's no lazer warz, the protagonist isn't the normal black haired brooding teenager protagonist, and I haven't seen it go DBZ yet. Seriously, the main character only went up in ability once technically, but I wouldn't call AutoMail you're normal dbz power up, in fact he wants it gone. The anime is free on the funimation channel on YouTube, so CR go and watch at least the first 15 eps before you judge it.

20th century boys in my opinion is an A, but considering you guys probably don't think so, I can settle for a B.

Yeah yeah, it is really slow in the beginning but it gets really good, it's a damn good mystery seinen manga with some solid drama. And I do not believe any of you have read all of 20th century boys.

Tsubasa resevoir chronicles - it has a semi interesting premise, but what carried the story was the secrets of the characters, and once those were out the story lost is unique appeal and became a generic shounen manga, so more of a C

Vagabond - A or B, The art is pretty solid, the story, well its a mix of A material and B material. Bottom line: If you like musashi and his story, it is an A manga, if you are neutral towards it, its a B manga.

Ranma 1/2, for what it aimed to be is an A, also it is an older manga, so I say it is an A, it isn't much of a cliche, because its more like one of those mangas that started this kind of stuff.

Higurashi - I recall the art being being ,meh level. The paranoia was very well implemented Rena's arc, mainly carried out by the pictures of her really damn creepy contorted face when she was possessed. B

* With a couple exceptions due to weird taste, it takes a significant amount for a manga to be an A for me, though I do give out a lot of B's, but if it is shounen I find it getting a C.

I suggest another manga to consider - Liar Game, more so then the characters and the plot (which is actually a bit innovative) reading each challenge and trying to find the solutions and loopholes is really cool and really interesting, I want to say A-, when people yell their face stretches way to much, it could be someones pic for a gag. NOTE: the first challenge in liar game is bleh, because it is mainly an intro, the second challenge is ok, then they get better from there on. It is also the only non-hentai non ecchi manga I know of that has a hermaphrodite in it, and that person isn't a throw away character either, they are a persisting character that gets a good amount of pages for a co star.

And outside of lists and all I do recommend Liar Game and 20th Century Boys to be read anyways.

Bakuman is kind of breaking the fourth wall. It parodies the manga business as a whole, especially referencing popular manga from the past. I think some of manga ideas the protagonists come up with would be pretty sweet if they actually existed.

I'm not too sure about it's popularity, but it seems to have a decent following on the scan websites I use.

I'd say A or B list.

Yeah he isn't black hair and brooding, he is blonde hair and brooding, over failing to transmute his mother back to life and getting his brothers body destroyed in the process (obviously there is a lot more stuff than that but I don't want to give out spoilers).

As to bakuman, I would say its a B (more of a B-) but it is all fine, it was really great as a parody of the manga business but it has gotten repetitive, rather it has forced itself to, because the ultimate goals of the characters could be achieved with one good manga, the manga also uses a fvck ton of cliffhangers to keep people reading to the next chapter. But the idea itself is a solid B.

oh hey I have a suggestion for the A category manga, Noblesse, it is really damn good. The first 3 or 4 chapters are a bit slow, but after you get into it, its funny and its awesome. The format is odd (really long pages, and few pages per chapter) but the vampire stuff is good, when was the last time vampires weren't flaunting their ridiculous power? oh and every page is in full high quality color.

bump - I just recalled a manga that I believe MUST be on the A list, this manga is fvcking awesome, and it is just a series of arcs with no overarching story, and it is still FVCKING AWESOME, this is what got me into manga, and there is rarely anything that meets its standards of uniqueness to me. Awesome color scheme - soul eater tried to have art like this, but they couldn't be that awesome and pull it off like this guy does.

This guy is so pro, just about as broken as death rex except that instead of having some stupid op power, he is just super pro.

bump - i forgot one of the oddest things about the anime - the dub is actually better than the sub - it even has slightly altered scenes that are better. The difference in the accents is just so much better in english. Cool intro piece, better sound and music, and for most part the english dub voices flow really nicely. And he steals some awesome powerofpoo, the heart of god (literally), the sun, greed, everything.
