Re: Bioshock infinite gameplay video
I saw that. Here is my opinion on it.
STUFF I LIKED:
The Crows. An unstoppable crow swarm would be pretty scary, like The Birds by Alfred Hitchcock. Good fear potential in that, although giving them to the player makes them seem far less scary.
The cyborg thing. It was immune to telekinesis spam, and it took an environmental kill to get rid of it. I hope they keep those things difficult to dispatch and don't make any anti-cyborg powers that make them piss easy.
STUFF I DIDN'T LIKE:
The accuracy of the sniper rifle. No way a gun from 1912 that we saw was mass produced would be able to snipe a guy that far away, especially considering that there is a high chance for very strong winds up that high.
Elizabeth. Scary games shouldn't have companions, especially not talkative ones that are super powerful.
The Character talks. This is a terrible mistake, if you want to create a feeling of isolation and immersion, you make the PC a empty vessel for the player to occupy.
Weaksauce Science/Story Rape. I already ranted about this.
MECHA-CROW. No way am I going to take that seriously, its goofy and makes no sense science-wise.
STUFF I AM SPLIT ON:
The rail-system. EXCELLENT fear potential, but also I feel that if done improperly that the player will lose any fear of using them by giving the players too much control over their path OR making it too easy to catch yourself.
Possession mobs. They feel more like grunts and have way less creepiness than the Splicers. However, making the player have to check his back every time he walks in a room with guys in it is a good idea. It CAN be creepy if done right. But they should have something to keep the PC from just shooting everyone he sees (dead guys can't get possessed after all) which isn't just a can't-shoot-neutrals restriction.

Well that was a great video I specially love the crow tonic great new power though I think it should be a mid game power. Also the rail system worlds first roller coaster looks like fun way to travel around. Only things I didn't like was how strong Liz was I personally dont mind the partner but shes that powerful it could make the game boring but if if it was only a few times then I wouldnt mind.

Re: Bioshock infinite gameplay video
Crow Swarm? Nrvnqsr Chaos zomg!!!! hey, same thing with antlions in hl2, except less scary and more on edge tension with those.
left 4 dead lol, its scary and you get 3 other people with you, but yeah the super powerful clinches it. plus her body proportions are almost inhuman, I take it this is a special fanservice thing cuz according to amos that's not how people are normally modeled.
Mecha-crow? I think we can take a parallel structure here, Rapture had its Dr. Tenebaum, Columbia has its Magical Amber.
Also the mobs seemed like Native American war bands which is really hypocritical.

I don't think that's a crow plasmid, Kaede. Plasmids you took through an injection needle, which is nowhere to be found in this game. I think thats more like a potion. Watch them call it something really stupid like Concoctions.

Re: Bioshock infinite gameplay video
stuff can be eaten to be put into your system, I thought it was just a whole lot more effective to use an injection. But yeah this game seems to be playing more on the edgey sorta creepy happy world, not a horror aspect. The possessed townspeople aren't going to be creepy after they all start chasing you, but when 1 of them shoots at your, or is doing something crazy, or they have a sudden possesion, then its creepy for a moment.

Re: Bioshock infinite gameplay video
yeah I was thinking he was mighty suspicous too, also I am curious, what would have happened if when he knocked that guy off, he had flung him totally off the platforms? I mean I realize that was all gameplay but it was all abit too smooth and way too perfectly done, like after that crowd chases him he just runs, the player wouldn't necessarily know they are going to get saved if they run

Re: Bioshock infinite gameplay video
Ahh, the magic of gameplay trailers. To let you know, Amos and Nina, there was no way the PC could kill anyone until he got his gun. By getting the gun he triggered the hostility of the patriot and crow-man.
Also, did anyone find the building falling down at the begining just plain random? Like it served no purpose other than to say "look at our new graphics engine! Isn't it zawesome?"

Actually I thought it ment that the city is becoming unstable and is starting to fall to the earth so in effect it had a meaning.

Re: Bioshock infinite gameplay video
Probably somebody realized that hot air balloons can't hold up buildings, and they broke the suspension of disbelieve and now the whole city is starting to fall.

Lol that has got to be an oversight with that city's design.
"Hey, I have these boxes of nails and panels of sharp glass ready for delivery"
"Just put them over there..."
"WHOOPS I dropped a few!"
*POP psssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss*

Re: Bioshock infinite gameplay video
you know that zeplins dont pop just like that, a hole that small in material that isn't cheap thin rubber, instead it will just lose air out of that hole, but if it is a hot air balloon it should be ok. That balloon was on fire for some reason, that might be a problem.
