Re: BIOSHOCK IS RUINED
Well it looks different. Plus what could they do with rapture didnt they bring it to the surface in 2 and the Synopsis makes it sound good.
"Set in 1912, BioShock Infinite introduces an entirely new narrative and gameplay experience that lifts players out of the familiar confines of Rapture and rockets them to Columbia, an immense city in the sky.
Former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt has been sent to rescue Elizabeth, a young woman imprisoned in Columbia since childhood. Booker develops a relationship with Elizabeth, augmenting his abilities with hers so the pair may escape from a city that is literally falling from the sky. DeWitt must learn to fight foes in high-speed Sky-Line battles, engage in combat both indoors and amongst the clouds, and harness the power of dozens of new weapons and abilities."

Re: BIOSHOCK IS RUINED
Ok, it has more plot holes than f ucking Swiss Cheese.
1) ADAM was discovered in Rapture by a dock worker in the 50's. The telekenisis that elizebeth used SHOULDNT EXIST YET. The telekenisis plasmid was made by Dr Sucong in the late 50's as well, and according to the bioshock 1 story he would be in china right now.
2) Buildings can't fly with hot air balloons! I don't need to expalin the science behind this, anyone with half a brain can tell they're just BSing it with Hot Air Balloon Buildings. Rapture was plausable with it's science, it's only stretch was the kind of things that can be created with stem cells (ADAM). The science here seems all over the map. What's powering the buildings? In bioshock 1 it was geothermal energy, in this we have nothing. And what about hiding Columbia from the public? Rapture was at the bottom of the sea, Columbia is flying over a F UCKING FARM. This isn't final fantasy, Cid isn't flying a sunfire powered airship, this is BIOSHOCK.
3)Why would escape from this place be harder than escaping Rapture? In Rapture, you have trillions of gallons of water to keep in in Rapture, there's no where else to go down there. In Columbia, you have many options. Hijack a plane and leave. Make a makeshift parachute and leave. Make a makeshift hangglider and leave. If your Alteir just fall into a cart of hay. All those things can be made difficult by a opperesive ruler, but in Rapture oppresive ruler or no there's No Escape Period.
4) There shouldn't be a big daddy. I know it's like a robot with a heart in it, but there's nothing else to call it, it's a big daddy. Big daddies guard little sisters, which again, were made by Sucong and Friends in the 50's. If theres no little sisters to protect, then you just have your typical "super robot soldier". And also, what powers the big daddy bot? Big daddies where people, food is their power. Robots have electricity as food, which up in the clouds would be HARD TO GET. I bet they'll write it off as giant magical wind turbines that harvest unlimited power.
5) They expect us to believe Columbia has been in the air many years without discovery or mechanical problems. First it says that this magic air city can be done with tech from 1912. THEN it says that Ellenor... I mean Ellizibeth has been trapped in Columbia since childhood. What? That means that its affloat on 1800's tech, WITHOUT ever being discovered, breaking down, or needing to land. This also means they must have some magic food maker on board, because there is no way they can feed a whole city on just whatever birds pass their way. Oh, and speaking of 1800's tech, they want us to believe that they can make a super-big daddy robot that has no discernable power source in the same era that just discovered the combustion eninge. Actually, the combustion engine was designed when Columbia was supossedly in the air, so Columbia doesn't even have that.
Also what bothers me is the philisophical theme here.
Bioshock 1: Objectivism. Something not covered before, original.
Bioshock 2: Collectivism. Cliche, done a lot in fantasy games.
Bioshcok infinite powerofpoo works: Patriotism. WTF????? How does that merit critical analysis? The themes from 1 & 2 covered how whole governments should be run, patriotism is, by definition, being a patriot. Andrew Ryan and Sofia Lamb were patriots for their governments, you can't be a patriot of patriotism, that doesn't make sense!!!
Also, they're recycling the plot from bioshock 2; guy is trying to save ADAM powered girl from evil doers. This game looks like powerofpoo, maybe they're just making it to make bioshock 2 better by comparison. It looks f ucking awful with no story, they exact opposite of bioshock 1. It had intense story telling, demented residents, and a strong, scary atmoshpere. This game looks too bright happy and sunny, and just from the description and trailer anyone with a brain can tell the developers of this abomination should eat a bouncer drill, their wives be plasmid test subjects,,their sons sent to work at Fontaine fisheries and their daugthers sent to Prometheus for little sister conditioning.

Re: BIOSHOCK IS RUINED
Yes, it doesn't seem to have any legitimate science behind it but as to the patriotism, no, just because it has this "be devoted to america", does not mean it couldn't be tackling unquestioned devotion and fanatacism.
As to the bright and sunny part, you would think they would make a flying city look happy. And also, you can have a bright and sunny place also be scary, using different horror methods, maybe more trying to unsettle you and the less obvious and more plain looking become something disturbing, (an example is like when they have some character that happy or plain (be this in a movie or a video game or whatever) and then with some good cinematic or scene, from one sentence, you feel something is up, and then they go berserk or such all of a sudden (kind of like Mal from Inception when they are in Karb's dream - the one with the 12 floors). Sure it's not a obvious glaring you in the face kind of horror, more like the kind of horror where when you are in a happy looking room, and you open the nice looking box, to find a severed bloody head in the box.

Re: BIOSHOCK IS RUINED
Also @michael your 5 point criticism is flawed in several areas:
1) sound.
2) being hick farmers they probably thought it was a UFO. which explains a lot. You're partially right with the hot air balloon thing, it takes industrial grade weather balloons just to lift a single person indefinitely, but don't diss final fantasy.
3) sound, except this is a damsel in distress we're talking about, you know rapunzel could have cut off her hair, tied it around a table or something and rappeled down that tower but then the story wouldn't be so interesting. also there are certain plot devices that can be thrown in that give you an obligation to stay, seeing as how the city is not completely overrun by mutant zombies.
4) This takes the cake. It is so very true that you can't get electricity in the clouds, because obviously NOBODY EVER FOUND OUT LIGHTNING IS PRODUCED IN THUNDERSTORMS WHICH INVOLVE CLOUDS. experiments with lightning date back to the 1700s (benjamin franklin) so GOOD JOB. I am going to speak like dlanor a. knox from now ON. Wind turbines would actually work for most conventional uses of kinetic energy in this 1800s CITY, because on average wind currents have a HIGHER VELOCITY and are almost UBIQUITOUS at higher altitudes in the ATMOSPHERE.
5) They are probably going to do that AGE ACCELERATION thing with elizabeth as WELL, then claim that time is RELATIVE and SUBJECTIVE. And that the combustion engine was designed while Columbia was IN THE AIR is not a problem, the problem would be that it was designed after it was LOST from THE PUBLIC.
1) sound.

I think that people were experimenting with lightning before Ben Franklin. other than that, which I will be doing some research on, in case I just F/UC up, your arguments are sound and your presentation good.

Lol I wasn't dissing final fantasy, but you can't just stick stuff from FF into other things to make it work. What would you think if in F/HA Cloud Strife just walks in and has a H scene with Caren?
And btw, that age acelleration thing was ALSO developed by Dr Sucong in the 50's, the project was funded by Fontaine so that he could turn the to-be son of Ryan into an adult, because kids are only good at fighting in Manga.

Re: BIOSHOCK IS RUINED
Nice example of sticking something from FF into another. FHA hscene cloud+caren...that would be very fitting actually...considering ko- erm, the age acceleration thing is a really bad plot device. oh, kids are only good at fighting in manga you say? I think harry potter was still a kid in order of the phoenix which had a bunch of fights, then there's percy jackson, will parry from the Dark is Rising, the irish cu culainn killed his namesake hound, spiderwick, animorphs, the young wizards series, underland chronicles, it's pretty much a universal trope.
Alright, about the philosophical themes: I don't see any major commenter or source saying that Infinite is about patriotism, the original purpose of making Columbia was probably rooted in what people thought was patriotism, but really what I think the overall views of the city inhabitants after the 'incident' are primarily fear and hatred of foreigners and political dissidents, so the theme here may be more like imperialism or simply racial superiority. Not that its a better theme to analyze in my opinion.

Re: BIOSHOCK IS RUINED
Ok ok I was wrong about kid fighting thing, even in Bioshock 2 theres a kid who fights. But thats because theres a ADAM slug lodged in her stomach and that only works for girls, guys cant have that and survive, and the embryo that Fontaine acquired was a male embryo.
I don't think Infinite could be themed around Imperialism, because that would imply the flying city of Columbia has political interactions with other nations, which sort of beats the purpose of having a secret city. And as for racial superiority, they could just not let black people go on the trip in the first place. Like in Rapture I can't think of there ever being a sinlge black character or even a black splicer, probably because black people weren't invited to the party. So the only theme that would make any sense is patriotism, they even have a picture of a guy wearing a stars and stripes suit.
However, given the amount of sense thats in this production thus far, I wouldn't doubt if they try one of those themes anyways.
HAPPY NEWS FOR ONCE:
It appears that the Bioshock Movie is doing better than this powerofpoo-y sequel. They got Ken Levine, the original writer for the whole story of Bioshock one as the writer for the movie, so thats almost a 100% guarantee it'll be true to the original story and feel. The director is Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, the guy who directed 28 weeks later, so this guy knows how horror works. That ALSO means the film is likely to be rated R for all the right reasons. Its set to be realesed in 2013, which means this thing isn't being rushed along too fast. I think this actually has a chance to make a good film (if you want to argue that, make a topic for it). My source is this http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1230526/
Funny Trivia I found: the other two writers for the original Bioshock 1 story were both women. Wow.

Listen to this guy, he's saying they're trashing everything from the original bioshock. Well thats just great, because that totally explains why Repunzel is telekenetic. Honestly, if your going to abandon the whole franchise just name it something different. -.-
They did this with System Shock, because System Shock 3 became Bioshock 1. Why not name the series something different, so then we don't have to nina about how the rules of physics have changed and that it takes place during a improbable time.

Re: BIOSHOCK IS RUINED
because you know what happens when you deliver a game that is practically the same? people complain about it, the optimal idea of a sequel is too keep all the old stuff that was good, improve on the bad stuff, and introduce new better stuff. But a game like bioshock doesnt have much to add to it, rather adding stuff to it may make it lose its quality because of the nature of the game. Sure they can pump in a bunch of gimmicks, but no one appreciates gimmicks that long. So instead companies end up keeping the bare basics of the previous game and try to change it up alot. So in short, it is hard to make a sequel that is considered good, not alot of companies succeed in that, and of the companies that do, they dont make all their sequels great, only in some games they manage too. So the general jist of sequels is either they aren't as good, or they are the same thing with some new models and places.

ok, but when you promise to trash 100% of the game and only keep its "spiritual elements" like the horror and shooting, I wouldn't call that a sequel. Hell, thats not even a spin off! I don't know what it is!

Re: BIOSHOCK IS RUINED
Well thats the problem, making such a huge prequel like this is ruining the original if its in the same universe and the tech in the past is far more advanced compared to the tech in the future for no obvious reason, and the new story line set in the past F/UCs up the old story line set in the future! Actually that sounds kinda familiar...
Anyways, the Nasu approach has the stories take place around the sameish time, at least the same time period, but infinity takes place 48 years before Bioshock 1. Infinity is just stupid in its choice of time period, I mean really, a city in the sky in 1912!? Also they're taking away the basic elements of the "shock verse" as Quan puts it. Both in System Shock and Bioshock the player is isolated in a horrific, cramp, restricted environment (Citadel Station, Rapture). Both friend and foe are distant voices on a radio (Rebeca & SHODAN, Atlas/Tenenbaum & Ryan/Fontaine), and you must do all you can to survive as the antagonist sends his/her evil minions to stomp the player (Cyborgs/Mutants, Splicers). The people you find alive are horrific mockeries of their past existence (All Enemies and NPC's that aren't major characters). In Infinity they specifically say they are straying from the formula. You get a permanent companion. There are really wide open spaces and vistas. I don't know what the enemies will be like, but my guess is that they won't be nearly as memorable as the splicers.

actually, it never specifies what time periods fsn and tsukihime take place in, so we can't conclude they took place at the same time. setting doesn't help either, the only sign of any time period is the TV in tsukihime and the bus in fsn, which put it anywhere from the 1970s to now.

Re: BIOSHOCK IS RUINED
Multiverse theory is a joke, its even worse then string theory, its for Doctor Who nerds who take the show too seriously and try to rationalize it.

Re: BIOSHOCK IS RUINED
actually, it makes sense, every choice made has at least 2 options, therefore there are a minimum two futures for every choice made.

I don't think Physics is so kind as to allow our subjective viewpoints to craft new universes. That's like Back to the Future logic.

The universes are instantly created the moment we think (or not even think) of possible choices in decisions we make.

Ok...........when a theory is based around the idea that it can't ever be proven by any means possible, you know something's wrong....

Re: BIOSHOCK IS RUINED
each persons reality is true until proven false, here is a nice example:
You are walking in some hilly area, you have never been to the place before.
Over the next hill, there is a giant pile of gold, this is real until the person goes over that hill and sees no gold.
The same way that words have a certain definition for a person until they decide otherwise.
You can make up all kinds of ridiculous ideas that can only be proven false when carried out, its more or less like the difference between the word can and is, and also how shoddy definitions of words are, since they are just sounds or images on a surface.
