It has really been a while since I updated the announcements...better start timestamping stuff! -- May 19th, 2011
But actually I stopped because my announcements are too trivial and nonsensical to be worth remembering.
I leave the following line up for nostalgia purposes as well:

Umineko or Higurashi? Empty Umineko or Higurashi?

I'm finally going to start reading one of these two VN and was wondering which should I start with. My personal opinion going on a first glance over the covers Higurashi imo looks boring because it looks pretty bland while Umineko looks interesting because it's well detailed (I know I shouldn't judge a VN by it's box work). I know both will be great reads but I wanna make sure I won't miss anything if I read Umineko before Higurashi.

tl;dr Should I start in Hinamizawa or Rokkenjima?

If you are going to read both then start with Hinamizawa, it is not as mind screwy (mostly because there isn't metaworld shenanigans)

Started reading higurashi but quit when i saw the character sprites. Playing Umineko with the ps3 patch.

It's a common reaction.
This site has patches to replace all the 'special' sprites as well as add the original BGM back in.
