Edward Newgate, better known as Whitebeard, the captain of the Whitebeard Pirates, was known as the "Man closest to One Piece" or "The Strongest Man in the World" and was one of the Yonkou that ruled over the New World. He is considered the biggest pirate threat to the World Government. Newgate's reputation was so great, his simple declaration of Fishman Island being his territory was enough to keep slave traders and pirates from attacking the place further, making him far more effective than the treaty signed with the World Government 200 years ago.

Description: Haki is separated into three categories: Kenbunshoku Haki, Busōshoku Haki, and Haōshoku Haki. Kenbunshoku Haki is a form of Haki that allows the user to sense the presence of others, even if they are concealed from view or too far to see naturally. When using this type of Haki, one can predict an opponent's moves shortly before they make them, thereby making the attack that much easier to evade. This prediction appears to the user as an image or brief "premonition" of what the opponent will do in the user's mind's eye, and the damage the user will take if the attack "hits" for real. Busōshoku Haki is another form of Haki that allows the user to create a force similar to an invisible armor around themselves. This armor can protect the user from attacks and push aggressors away. This type of Haki enhances the power of any attack, and also allows the user to bypass magical defenses, directly striking at the soul of the enemy. Haōshoku Haki grants the user the ability to overpower the wills of others. Those with weak wills are knocked unconscious (less than B rank Endurance).

This fruit is fearsomely reputed to be able to destroy the world, and is considered to be the strongest Devil Fruit within the Paramecia-class, having powers no weaker than that of a Logia. Whitebeard can use the fruit for 3 times every time he activates his abilities.

Whitebeard fought with a heavy halberd called a bisento, and was immensely skilled with it. The bisento amplifies the power of his Devil Fruit and Busōshoku Haki. With the bisento, Whitebeard can generate a shockwave in less than a millisecond. He usually employed the bisento using both hands, but was also seen capable of using it proficiently with just one hand. When it clashed with Shanks' saber, the added power of Busōshoku Haki cause the "heavens" to literally split.

[Description] Codename "Hei", the main protagonist of Darker than Black, is an elite contractor, with the Messier Code BK-201. Hei has a double persona in the series. In the general public he is referred to as Li Shengshun, a good-natured Chinese exchange student living in the Umitsuki apartments and occasionally working in his "part time job". He has short black hair and a large appetite. Hei's other persona is that of the Contractor simply known as BK-201 by authorities or as The Black Reaper (Kuro no Shinigami) by other Contractors. Even before becoming a Contractor, Hei worked as an assassin, earning his nickname. As Hei, he operates in a mask, a bullet resistant overcoat, and with gear suiting a military operative.

His ability is the manipulation of molecules, which he commonly uses to make his coat stronger than armor past the point of blocking bullets as well as creating an electrical charge which can be conducted through his weapon or directly to whatever he is touching (cannot conduct through air or concrete) to his enemy who would have their energy drained without the ability to move his/her body due to the current being conducted throughout his/her body. This ability also nullifies the damage of any energy (beam) type attacks as hei can change the particles of energy attacks to become completely useless
