Mechwarriors 4
Holy shi t, that is some of the hardest shi t to control I have ever seen. This all makes sense after like 3 hours of playing.
The basics of control of the mech:
you use the buttons 1 through 9 (the ones on the top of the keyboard, not the numpad) to increase or decrease your speed. 1 is 0 mph, then it increases by a fraction of your top speed. Press backspace and you will go backwards at a speed depending on what number/gear you are on.
the numpad 4 and 6 are for turning the whole mech left or right.
the numpad 7 and 9 are for turning the torso left or right.
numpad 8 looks downwards.
numpad 2 looks upwards.
to shoot, you use the buttons insert, home, page up, page down, delete and end (you assign weapons to the keys, it must be of those 6 keys).
You can assign more then 1 gun to fire per key, but if only some of the guns are on cooldown for a given key, only those that are ready to fire will fire.
ok now onto other stuff:
Weapons:
Weapons each have a type (either laser, ballistic, or machinegun/super photon cannon/nuke - it has a nicer name then that).
Weapons each have heating rate, reload rate and damage rate.
Weapons all have weight.
Weapons each have a slot size, max is 3 i believe.
Weapons can only be equipped to slots of their type or universal slots (those arent that common though).
Weapons can only be equipped if you have the space to fit them and the weight capacity to equip them.
Weapons each have a range, they simply do not affect things beyond that range.
Most ballistic weapons have some homing quality to them they do good damage and have some heating, has ammo.
The heavier nuke/machine gun/photon cannon weapons are ridiculously strong (highest damage in the game easy) also these weapons tend to have very very little heating this weapon set uses up ammo really fast.
Laser weapons are light, weaker, but don't use up ammo (usually have higher heating).
Weapon ammo can be increased by the original amount for only 1 ton of weight (the base weight of these mechs is measured in tons).
There is like a bajillion weapons.
There is like abajillion mechs. (its like freespace 2 graphics, but there is soo many more mechs and weapons holy powerofpoo).
Theres like 30 paint jobs.
Mechs have base top speed and given weapon slots and given amount of weight capacity, thats about all their is too them.
Oh, also there is like 8 overall utilities (scanner jammer, anti missle system, jet jump, etc) different mechs can equip different utilities.
You can pump up your armor or pump it down to change your weight.
If you overheat your mech (which is pretty hard to do not on purpose or knowingly) its system fails and it shutsdown.
So yeah, it all checks out logically, I mean ok so its very futury, but they acknowledge that huge combat lasers produce a shi tload of heat, and so too do other weapons this size. And that these robots cost a freaking ton.
The campaign mode is very nice, lots of missions, voice acting for all of them, I only tried the wolfs though, there are 4 groups to play as.
The game is clearly very america v russia v other countries.
I can't put this on mediafire cuz its 2 isos and each one is about 550 megabytes, if there is a way to go make it into a ton of little rars I don't know how to do it.

Re: Mechwarriors 4
so much custimization -.-, also I swear unless you decided to stick all the pointless trash weapons on you (the game even says they suck and should only be used to pack an extra dmg) then you will never fill all the slots on your mech, so its more like picking the weapons you want and some nice mech stats, not trying to fill up a mech with weapons.

Re: Mechwarriors 4
eh, these controls aren't as hard to use as FreeSpace2, but having a laptop with no numpad and the home/insert/page keys in a weird arrangement is going to make this hell for me.
Re: Mechwarriors 4
the training doesn't specify like anything, there is a ton of special lock on stuff like in Freespace 2, just moving is way more annoying.

Re: Mechwarriors 4
this game without numpad is pretty nasty, or rather I would assume it is.

Re: Mechwarriors 4
I have the torso turning functions all mapped to the mouse, turn left and right to A and D. obtw amos how do you 'turn up' with your legs?
WARNING--THE FOLLOWING WILL CAUSE YOU A GREAT DEAL OF PAIN, ESPECIALLY TO YOUR PUNNY BONE.
I don't like 'turn up's anyway, they are a disgusting vegetable. what kind of mech battle involves turn ups anyway. Even if there was a celebratory banquet or something, I would never turn up for turn ups.

He means aim the torso upwards, so that you can shoot helicopters.

Re: Mechwarriors 4
I could say turn whole mech left, turn torso up, etc, but its a lot easier for people who haven't played to be like "ohhhh the turn up thing" and the problem with look up is that they might think it is a variation of the look left and look right buttons, by the way the looking buttons are worthless.
also forgot to mention torso turn left is q and torso turn right is e for me

Re: Mechwarriors 4
I'm still amazed there's a self destruct button. I guess the only reason to use it is in Multiplayer on the off chance that all your weapons are disabled/out of ammo AND you can get close enough to your enemy to go kamikaze on them.

Re: Mechwarriors 4
if you get close to your opponent do you even need the button? I think that could be a tight strategy to not getting killed, when you are low on health just run up to them, they will try to back away, keep mech humping them while shooting them down to your health, then if you time it right you can back up and shoot him down without dieing.
For our first match we should try a team mission, one of the endgame steiner or davion ones, the davion mission is a pimp.
