Pacific Rim: Uprising
As you may know, the original Pacific Rim is one of my favorite modern American movies, the main sound riff sticks with me to this very day.
The sequel's been confirmed with footage trailers for release in 2018. New robots, new powers, new kaiju. Quick rundown of the biggest differences which make me uneasy:
1. The lead is a new character played by John Boyega. This is cool since I wasn't too attached to the original guy, but I think it'll be kind of weird seeing him alongside the part of the cast that's returning, including Rinko Kikuchi. This scenario also seems eerily familiar to Independence Day Resurgence which might have flopped due to the lack of Will Smith.
2. It wasn't written by Guillermo Del Toro. This was the primary artistic draw to the first movie for me, besides the obvious cool factor; I absolutely adore Del toro's movies and writing. I'm afraid that with a different writer at the helm, the tone might take a turn from the extra hammy but still awe-inspiring side to the positively cringey side.

Looks like an anime, and that is not a complement. This should have been a comic book or an animated series rather than another movie because while I liked the original movie, it flopped domestically and had to be saved by china's sales.
I'd list this as an unnecessary sequel like the new blade runner movie.

Re: Pacific Rim: Uprising
eh, don't follow your logic.
Blade Runner 2049 is doing extremely well in the box office and most of the money Hollywood makes is from China anyways, so if it does well there, why not make a sequel? If the point of a sequel is to make mad cash, then it seems to be the right course of action (if you're talking about from a critical or artistic perspective that the sequel shouldn't have been made, then that's a different issue; just responding this way since u mentioned the flop as the reason you'd prefer a comic book or animated series).
That being said, I am very disappointed we don't have Guillermo Del Toro doing this one.

We're lacking Drift compatibility here. And I think they did do a spinoff comic series in between? The Lord Kelvin wrote: most of the money Hollywood makes is from China anyways

I'm not saying 2049 isn't doing well, just that it was unnecessary to make. I'd also say this movie is unnecessary to make because the original was wrapped up very neatly and did now warrant a sequel. Plus I generally don't like sequels that are not needed, I like it when a story ends and it's not dragged on unnecessarily.

And thus ur saying it's unnecessary to make from a critical/artistic perspective.

Re: Pacific Rim: Uprising
Pretty much, I probably will see it still because I liked the first though. I will see the new Blade Runner as well, though probably on blu ray because i don't wanna drive an hour to see a movie and the only time I go to Vegas is for work, so no chance to see a movie.

Your town doesn't have a movie theater? Do I have to break out the primitive cultures copypasta again?
Re: Pacific Rim: Uprising
Nope, we would have had one before I moved here but the city government got greedy and tried to extort more money from the casino that was going to add in a movie theater. Should be getting one next year though.

Primitive Cultures
Primitives do not read and write their own language and do not form significant permanent settlements. The chief industry of Primitives is the procurement of food, usually by hunting (traditionally a male role) and gathering (traditionally the task of women, children and the elderly). They do not work metal and organized farming is still rare. Modern Primitives include most basement dwelling gamers, the town Nina lives in, and the entire world of Felix's game Chunky Wars.
Oh right, where were you when Vegas is kill?
Re: Pacific Rim: Uprising
I dunno, the casino was literally on the day to start building the theater, then the city demanded another million dollars on top of the twelve million dollars (I think it was that, they were going to expand their casino to do this) they paid for the builders & fees paid to the local government to do this. Though the place that is doing this now makes a good amount from their businesses and are just adding it onto there so who knows.
At home when the shooting happened, was my day off so I just stayed home playing games and bugging Lex.
