and slashing through stuff just proves the potential of the blade...

but amos brought up swordsmanship so i felt like i had to weigh in

there is an advantage to not cleaving, for most because of the 4 combat applicable attacks, only 2 are vertical, and the one against the hand, is pointless to cleave, you just put a 4 inch dip into their wrist / forearm section, its useless. As for the head blow, 4 inches in and you cut their brain, they are now dead or vegetables, and much more likely dead.

Next, you can only chain a men if you tried to do a kote, it takes to long to go from a Do to a Men strike. And skeet (the stab slice motion) can't chain anything, because you are too far away from striking distance after the skeet is used, and if they blocked, you are in much more of a hurry to step back and get back to chudan no kamai (the basic, and strongest of the kendo forms, Joudan is also pretty strong though, Ni To Ru (dual wield) is actually weaker and only prodigal kendo players can amass multiple wins with them, mainly because of how much harder it is to get a point and effectively use a 2 handed sword with 1 hand).
