Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni [VN - English]
Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni (ひぐらしのなく頃に, When the Cicadas Cry, "Higurashi When They Cry" in mangagamer faggotspeak)
A Japanese 'Sound Novel', billed as such by the creators as a visual novel putting greater emphasis on the audio aspect rather than graphics. Authored by Ryukishi07, of 07th Expansion.
The gay english shojo VN publisher MangaGamer has licensed and released a translated version of episodes 1 through 4(as well as the rest but that will be discussed in a different topic), you can buy it legitimately here: http://www.mangagamer.com/allages/Titles/Details/DB2324F5-8829-455B-B75B-93C14A560794/higurashi-when-they-cry
its freaking 40 bucks for a stripped down version with replaced gay BGM, no minigames, and stupid font.
Lazyfag obtain: CarbineClip >> Higurashi VN en Ingles >> higurashiwhentheycry, 2 parts
There's an iOS/iPhone port as well, ask MarthMarthy(IRL nowadays of course due to issues) or nullset12 for info.
07th Expansion Presents....Welcome to Hinamizawa. "When They Cry..." The first novel in the When They Cry series.
The story is divided into 8 'episodes', each exploring different elements in the universe.
It takes place in June 1983, 56th year of the Shouwa Era in the isolated rural village of Hinamizawa, Japan. It is narrated in first person from the perspective of perceived main protagonist Maebara Keiichi, an adolescent boy whose family has just moved into the small village for his father's job. Over the course of several weeks he makes several close friends and finds out more about Hinamizawa. The small population of 2000 is very close knit, friendly and community oriented, but various references pop up that suggest that they harbor a dark secret. Initially portrayed as a comedic shojo centered around Keiichi and his all-female group of friends, the story is slowly revealed to be a murder mystery. Hinamizawa has had a tradition of hosting a unique annual festival, Watanagashi, deeply rooted in the villagers' religion. However, for over 4 years grotesque and violent murders have always occurred on the day of Watanagashi, labeled as the curse of their god, Oyashiro-sama, and 1983 will be no exception. They must break through the curse and find the truth of the serial murders before it's too late.

No, the version hosted is the mangagamer version, there is no other translation for anything past episode 1 AFAIK. So you have absolutely no reason to buy it.
Re: Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni [VN - English]
None of them work wayne ...
EDIT: Nevermind i was running them off a flash drive by accident

Yeah, they do not work when you run them off flash drives for some reason, I should've mentioned that before that they absolutely must be on your HD.
Re: Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni [VN - English]
iPhone version currently has episodes 1-4 ported.
Each episode is bought separately:
Ep. 1 is free.
2-4 is $5.99. #4 in Japanese is free(wtf gay).
They are around 140mb each.
For all those jailbroken users, I believe only 1-3 are on Installous.

Ep four is gay - no real plot value and its the same price for a shorter story.

Re: Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni [VN - English]
according to him, he stopped reading because "Everyone's doing it" and mykal wan' be hipster(still needs glasses though) and not be mainstream. But then we all started reading higurashi mainly because he did. First in Last out, it's a Stack structure.

Re: Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni [VN - English]
Eh, I stopped reading it because although Ryukishi can write awesomely creepy scenes, I have to slog through some stupid Shojo story in the first half of every episode and that makes everything sooooooo boringggggg. I tolerated it the first time because the mystery was interwoven into the shojo AND because I needed to know who everyone was. Second time it introduced a new character that changed everything. Third time...it tells us Satoko would like her big brother back and by this time we know what she really means by that so there's nothing plot important in the whole damn first half of the story!!!

Re: Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni [VN - English]
You are so very wrong in that respect...there are several 'keys' to the mystery in the first half that you need to understand for Matsuribayashi-hen.
So what genre is the "stupid story" in Umineko? It's themed just like one of Christie's classics!
Lastly, you don't like shojo. And yet-
