University of ProZ Degrees

Certain subject matters require a certain standard of in-universe experience between individuals in order to have an intellectual conversation. Naturally, those unlearned in the respective areas will be prone to make epic inf0rm4t!0n f4i15 that elicit irate corrections from the topic starters. This system was also established because I wanted to build on the certified nasuverse experts concept. Presented first is a generic scale of each degree and what to expect.

GENERIC DEGREE SCALE:
nub - you know of its existence. do not listen or acknowledge whatever spouts out of this fool's mouth unless it coincides with someone higher up.
Undergrad - You've read/watched a less than optimal form of a major work or a minor work. References will be a bit far off from canon, but will deviate as the adaptation does, sometimes extremely(ie. Hellsing anime). But you at least know the characters. If judging a hypothetical situation like pitting two characters together that haven't fought before, undergrads and below can't make accurate judgments for power levels(expect a DBZ reference) and the victor.
BS - As in it's what you don't do. you've seen at least one major work in its entirety, in a form that actually exists (so watching the 'THAT WHICH HAS NO EXISTENCE' gets you no points) and is accepted as canon. 50% of the time you'll be right in fight/other judgments, but as to characters that don't appear in the version you saw and other events you'll be in the dark.
Master - RICK ROLL'D OMG HE'S BACK OVER 30 MILLION SERVED!!! The standard of this varies from topic to topic. The only thing I can guarantee for the generic archetype is that you'll recognize references to the verse in other works. Randomly unbroken sentence jumping from topic to topic!
PhD - Piled High and Deep. Fan works, all the major stuff, maybe some fanfic if your brain can take the horror. you know all the memes, inside jokes and concepts and can see a shout out from a mile away. The only thing left to do is become a BNF on tvtropes. (for example, Hellsing references Vladimir Harkonnen from Dune as Seras' epichax dual infantry borne AA incendiary guns that double as grenade launchers. In turn, HighSchool of the Dead references hellsing by naming one of the charactes after the author, kouta hirano. or it could be just a coincidence.)

Now, here's the most important field, central to our community-
NASUVERSE DEGREES. I will include typical quotes and reqs, but not attribute any of the quotes to protect identities. You'll understand what I mean.

NASUVERSE DEGREE SCALE:
nub - you've heard us talking about fsn or watched us play CFF. enough to make stupid comments about it.
"Why do all the fighting people have such generic names?" "But there is a THAT WHICH HAS NO EXISTENCE, I've seen it" "caster is a girl??" ^
Undergrad - you saw the fsn anime. you don't understand how VNs work. and you actually thought the filler arc with caster was canon until someone told you it wasn't. "but kirei is the bad guy!" "wtf? true assassin?" "where's caster's greek temple in the VN?" "saber is like an emotionless robot" "ilya is the definitive lolicon" "Nuuuuuu come back seiba *cries*"^^
BS - read either Tsukijime or FSN, fully unlocking it. "The 2nd tiger dojo drumstick movie resembles a 1v1 touhou match"(it does.) "Cherry Blossom's Dream is like the end of Elfen Lied, it would be a Tear Jerker but we already went through fate route, so yeah." "Nasu's ubiquitous use of the word 'meat' in H-scenes makes me crack up every time."
Master - seen one side of the nasuverse in multiple forms (fsn anime+vn, Tsukijime vn+oh, nvm manga) showing your devotion. reading fate/zero along with fsn for example. "is Urobuchi Gen's writing style that different from Nasu's, or is it just translation differences?"
PhD - Read both FSN and Tsukijime. Just 1 VN with Kara no Kyoukai instantly elevates you to this, because KnK is badass and obscure. Type Moon Complex, Battle Moon Wars, CROSSOVERZ ROXOR OMG. One of the Melty Bloods played grants extra badass. "Lancelot's fairy protection ability along with the weapon proficiency allows him to beat any other servant at mid-close range, and saber can only turtle with avalon." ^^^ "Half-Moon for reg. tohno shiki gives OP speed for the qcfd flash att. allowing chain w/2141236c arc drive 10k ohko, nanaya mode is mutually exclusive w/meodp."(don't worry i just made that up) "Oh wow"^^^^

PS. from what I have heard from TVTropes, the Nasuverse has one of the most developed and functional magic systems (theory and details) for its kind, they almost made their own version of DND for chrissake, but 90% of source material is untranslated in japanese.

WHEN THEY CRY METAVERSE DEGREES:
(I feel lonely so I encourage you to get cracking on the insane clockworks of this universe.)

nub - you hear intero or myself make a long argument about it. maybe you've heard of some kinzo memes. "OH DESIRE!!" "trollface lol" "hur hur [insert bad vaguely umineko related joke here]" AND you have started reading one of the works.
Undergrad - reading the umineko manga, which is extremely incomplete. I don't recommend you even start it.
BS - You've seen one or two of the following: Umineko VN, umineko anime, higurashi VN, manga, anime. bonus points if the two are from different series. The higurashi anime has the most unfitting intro for its apparent genre, like ever. plus there's the really gay Rei thing but it's still good because of fanservice.
Master - At least one work from both series, the answer arcs to at least one(higurashi manga counts), and the out of game TIPS, which can be found at the umineko wiki. "RIKA IS BERNKASTEL!" "omfg no shut up Corenat"
PhD - You'd have to know Japanese to get this far, there's a powerofpoo ton of untranslated material. those dang korean folks have probably already solved the witch's epitaph. and google translate IS USELESS. F/UC.    

NOTE: You may not request a degree unless you are qualified for more than a 'nub' degree in the Nasuverse or When They Cry Metaverse. In other words, you do not get to have a ProZ degree tag under your username if you possess only 'nub' degrees.

Should we have how many degrees we have as part of our user system? Like post count, age, location, and the University of ProZ Degrees, all right there so that we can tell who's just BSing crap and who isn't.

Although, I should be When They Cry BS, I've read two of the eight visual novels. And the VNs have more plot than the manga and anime.

Read / see some umineko, they go more into depth about the over all universe of that setting, it helps to understand Higurashi, btw, naku koro ni books have a much better base then the nasuverse

Hell has their nice demons.

The hierarchy of witches is solid, and their powers and the general style in which they do stuff is more original than that of Nasuverse (though the true ancestors are good stuff, the more generic vampires are meh)

i guess she's right, but since most of us r at school together, and talk about the nasuverse a lot, only kaede wud really need to take that test, corenat knows about how knowlegable we are about the nasuverse already

actually darkgenesis, the nasuverse has enough source material to play dnd entirely based off of their books, detailed tabletop descriptions of basic spells and magic theory, but 90% of the supplements are untranslated.

Another reason to use RSJ.

chibi means small I believe. But like slang and how words can become verbs (like the phrase to google) it has become a reference to a specific type of art.

probably originated somewhere, and unless someone knows off the top of their head where to find the origin of japanese slang words, we probably won't know where it originated from nor how.

Uhh yeah, the system's supposed to be a measure of education, not a measure of divinity, so if you've read something that absolutely nobody else has seen that's called being a specialist, you're not a god.

It has a small but solid fan base, cus you know what? Its just that good, but people don't try it out.

I've seen the entire Higurashi anime and the first 3 VN question arcs.
I also have the F/SN VN on my computer but I haven't read more than the introduction.

Request granted. According to the list that Kooay put up, this would give you a BS degree in When They Cry Metaverse and a nub degree in Nasuverse.

Not that impressive anymore because now we know Higurashi's in english and Twilight is out.

Although unimpressive, I'd still like to request a Master's in When They Cry, to be upgraded on the end of the Twilight translation.

In perhaps the most pointless act of thread necromancy in the history of internet forums, I have returned to apply to upgrade my Nasuverse nub classification into a PhD, seeing as I read both F/SN + Tsukihime years ago but never bothered posting about it.
